In 2009, Eastern New Orleans (through state legislation) established a formal board of its neighborhood presidents to advise the city regarding various issues related to its geographic area. Link to the Board on the City’s website
The discussion around the appetite to enact such legislation for Algiers may be upon us. The proposition is to formalize an active voice on behalf of Algiers based upon its unique needs and characteristics which are different from our neighbors across the river with whom we share a councilperson. All aspects of the legislation are on the table, and it will require a huge effort to engage the entire Algiers community, determine if there is a desire to see this through, and organize the effort.
